dining 1980

There are about 5,000 restaurants in Washington.
There are still the best French restaurants in the country--
And some of the worst.
It still has nearly six esse restaurants from Scandinavia.
When people review the variety of restaurants in Washington every year, it is not surprising that the situation remains fairly stable ---
Some get better, some get worse, many open, many close.
But there is always enough improvement to convince people that Washington is constantly becoming a better eating city. Jean-
Louis alone has been more determined to include Washington on the list of seriously eating cities, and has even aroused the respect of cooking Olympus ---France.
But the other two great cuisines also contribute to the restaurant, which deserves to be at the top of anyone\'s table.
Hunan\'s house is an exception to hundreds of Chinese restaurants in Washington. once Vincenzo\'s restaurant has solved the problem, it targets the top restaurants in Italian restaurants.
We also added a New American restaurant. -
Last Grill Room-T. Gregory\'s.
These ambitious projects are even more eye-catching for the upcoming Washington restaurants as they are belatedly feeling financially strapped.
Some restaurants saw empty tables for the first time.
The diners are lighter.
As the cost of everything is faster than the menu reprints, profit margins are shrinking.
The price range is tightening and average checks for medium and large restaurants are less than ever.
Food trends are moving slowly, but demand for seafood and red meat is growing steadily in Washington.
Now there is more than one answer, \"where is a good seafood restaurant?
\"More importantly, more and more restaurants offer fresh, not frozen, seafood and cook well.
With so many nice new restaurants, it\'s clear why some of the old hot ones have been missed this year.
If you are wondering why I have not evaluated Le Provencal, El Bodegon or Blue Nile, or which one you like best to miss, the answer is that there is no good answer.
In the six months I went to the restaurant-
At least once a day--
For the fall food guide, I have to feel free to miss something as important or enjoyable as many of them included.
Some institutions-
For example, Paul Young and Sans Souci-
I was canceled at the last minute due to significant changes in the staff and I did not have the opportunity to assess the impact of these changes.
I will try to find them next year.
But for those who suspect that Washington is a good restaurant city, that\'s the evidence.
This is one of those exciting cities where you can go to different restaurants every day for six months but still not all the good ones.
Key: for actual reviews, the information about the restaurant in this guide is provided by the restaurant itself.
Restaurant requirements listed but not reviewed are included.
The price is the cheapest main course for lunch (L)and dinner (D).

There are very few German restaurants in Washington, and alpof of reminds you how interesting they are.
In addition to the main restaurant, the restaurant has an elevated platform and a balcony, dark wood with a bright blue accent, a little old and a little new, very in line with the spirit of Bierstube.
The waiters are so charming and lively that you have half of them besides them who want to sing a song from The Student Prince.
Unfortunately, their attention is intermittent and so is the quality of the food.
Try spicy instead of subtle dishes, especially sausages.
Appetizers include delicious German snacks: air-
Beef jerky, cheese, Westphalia ham, vinegar meat, cheese or green fish salad.
In contrast, oxtail soup is disappointing.
Beef cooked from the main course (dry and grim)
Come to a plate of bacon with sauerkraut and dumplings, and of course you should try sauerkraut and dumplings, even if the latter is a little meaty.
There are also WeiNeng fried steak, fried sauce, stewed beef and roast pork, as well as a series of desserts from apple strudel to sachertote.
Alpof of is not perfect, but it is a unique style in the center of Washington DC.

Macadamia nut rolls, chicken, mung bean and seafood salad will win the first vote.
Pickled beef is the best here in Baltimore, and roast beef and Turkey have revived the meat of those delicatessens.
On the plate, the food is very fresh and the diversity caters to those who crave after a traditional meal or sandwich.
No burgers but BBQ, vegetarian, hot turkey, chili dog and undersea sandwich with soup from excellent to slapdash, with very good crust and delicious fillings and then desserts centered on pancakes and ice cream, plus the most traditional pastries ---
Pecans, cheesecake and brownies.
The restaurant also offers an excellent list of American wines and imported wines.
Price reflects the quality of goods--high.
But, between the canteen kitchen serving the cafe and the plates, there were many notes, a silk of meat in the sandwich, basked from quiches, and the peppers were soaked in the French chili paper.

Kebabs are the stars on the menu, especially kebabs or kufta kebabs.
Their marinade is very strong, smoked and juicy, with butter rice, it is better to have very good hummos or baba ghanouj before it.
There are also stuffed cabbage, pumpkin or grape leaves, kibeh and some curry on the menu, but none match the kebab.

Let\'s not talk about food for the time being. let\'s take a look at the unique style of the Four Seasons Restaurant Aux Beaux Champs.
It has four windows and four walls.
Seasonal beauty of Rock Creek Park.
The soft and rich fabric covers the floors, walls and seats, and boasts unparalleled local luxury.
The space is large, the service is exquisite, and it is very capable.
From the central pastry table to the Apple-carved little batons, arranged as spokes on a plate of sweet bread, the attention to the details of the decoration is ongoing.
The menu is tempting, with little routine.
One night, when most diners I saw ordered shrimp cocktails, they could have chosen the appetizer Smithfield ham with kiwis and pears, and the hazelnut duck terrine with the snail of tarragon, salmon with two caviar, lobster and scallops in the shortbread box, or smoked salmon with blini, plus a few.
The captain recited the daily special--
Unfortunately too much, can\'t remember, sometimes the price is higher than any other menu entry.
But people are back to food.
It\'s okay, sometimes it\'s good (
Like the tender mouse of salmon)
Bad sometimes (
Like the $21 lobster meat, dry and hard, with a rose-colored sauce, it tastes small except for the burnt base).
The safest dish I \'ve ever tried is sweet bread in a calvados --
Scented cream and beef Medal in mustard cream with irrelevant prunes.
Generally speaking, this is a regular cooking with a decorative style, and there may be highlights on The Pastry table.
The most important thing is the German chocolate cake, probably the best in Washington.

Suspend your expectations and Axum will be interesting. An Adams-

Cover the table and be reborn as. . .
Sudanese restaurant.
20 dishes are listed on the menu, many of which are similar to other dishes, all with large and pale fermented pancakes that serve as plates and silverware for Esher to eat.
You rip off the pancakes and scoop up the lamb, stewed lentils or chopped raw beef.
The cooking is simple and warm, and the use of red peppers, the main spices, is limited.
Axum\'s food is a gentle introduction to the Egyptian fire, not the best in the local Egyptian restaurant, but the reasonable price and friendly room added a little.
The service is sometimes awkward because when the waitress asks the customer to open the wine because she doesn\'t know how to open it, her desire to please is part of the charm and axum is a nice place.

The good news is that barks now serves Lebanese food for lunch and dinner.
The bad news is that my last bacchus food sample is far from as delicious as it was before.
Hummos Specials topped with beef and almonds are not beautifully decorated and not so rich.
Both homemade sausages were broken.
The chicken on the spiced rice was previously moist, juicy, fragrant and pleasant, this time dry and dull.
Thank God, the kebab is very good.
The fresh meat and orange cream pudding are refreshing, sweet and sour.
Barks is a charming little place with brick walls and tiled tables.
The service is good and the price of the wine list is moderate.
It has been excellent so far;
I hope its third year is short. lived.

Bamiyan now has American Water, but they seem to be familiar with the food in Afghanistan.
In addition, the restaurant upstairs is very simple with the most beautiful Afghan flavor;
The price is still low;
The food is better than ever.
The most important thing in the dish is aushak, whether as an appetizer or a main course, the homemade noodles are made with fried leeks or scallions, topped with yogurt, mint and tomato sauce;
This is an inspiring combination.
Similar toppings are crispy
The edge of eggplant or pumpkin is average.
Or fried noodles with yogurt next to them.
Kebabs are also delicious, especially marinated lamb.
The chicken will be a little dry.
On one side are sweet spiced rice, seasoned beige rice, a roll-heart lettuce salad flavored with lemon, and a ridge of homemade bread.
The wine list is very small, especially the wine winemaker.
As a dessert, bakalava is the best.
The cut corn starch pudding is unique in taste, and the extra-large sugar noodles are also delicious.
If you like cardamom, you can finish it with fragrant tea.
The main feature of Bamiyan is that a full dinner is more expensive than a la carte.

West African restaurants come and go in Washington, but Baobab seems to be staying here.
The restaurant is clearly African-style, with green wall coverings and artifacts and woven fans hanging on the back of each dining chair.
The table is very close but this is not the whole thing that takes it to a friendly place.
Although the menu is not easy to translate into English, and the waiter is no more descriptive than the menu, the food is basically similar, stewed with pepper tomatoes or peanut butter or fish, with wooden plates of rice or other grains, fried cabbage, carrots and zucchini.
There are more vegetables, and there are fewer.
Rice can be replaced with steamed beans or fake potatoes.
Meat and fish are thin easily.
The food is rustic and rustic.

I like it best because there are fresh and quiet restaurants and fresh and innovative food. The Big Cheese has expanded to a lush upstairs restaurant filled with exotic colored fabrics and gorgeous watercolor prints, raising prices while the quality drops.
The new price means that cooking consistency and service levels that don\'t actually exist here.
The choice is still interesting. -
Beef breast with meat stuffingand-
Fruit stuffed pepper with walnut cream, Cornwall hen with vanilla cream cheese--
But, in addition to the two fried cheese dishes that have been the pillar of the restaurant since the beginning, these dishes are full of mistakes: Delicious Clam soup that tastes canned, batter
Fried fish vegetables that keep too much grease, blue cheese puffs cakes that are flooded with blue cheese, sweet but too dry cakes that soundsweet.
Big Cheese stays still at its best, raising prices, while more sophisticated newcomers offer better service at lower prices.

This very human French restaurant has returned to its previous inconsistency. the taste is unique, but there are dry and paste seafood. choucroute is balanced in taste, but it has ariid and chewy meat.
Some are good, some are bad, that\'s it.
The menu is full of home-cooked dishes like tongue and rabbit liver, as well as seasonal foods like crayfish, but the service is chaotic and neglected.
The restaurant is pleasant when tall windows open in autumn.

French restaurant in mid range--

This is a scene of change, a satisfying year, a different year.
The logo of Chez Grand Mere this year is nice, and its two small rooms are beautifully decorated with Victorian lace and lead glass, Tiffany lights and brick-like wooden beams. The food --
Dishes including lentils sausage, hot pot and casulai-
Lovely if not spectacular.
The price is rough, warm, and the soup is delicious. garlic and scallions are served on the main course.
The most suitable dish for large portions--
Sausage or liver, for example, but saves space for flaky apple pie and delicious espresso.
Warm and friendly service.
A casual dinner is especially welcome, which is half a good choicebottle of wine.

Enter through the kitchen and lunch counter and you will be attracted by the wonderful smell of unusual spices and charcoal --grilling.
The restaurant is small and the booth is enough for four slim diners to use. the decoration is limited to some carnations, some cartons and a refrigerator, and a few bottles of wandering wine and beer.
In other words, this is a typical low-priced ethnic restaurant with Vietnamese and French dishes.
The food sounds more exotic than the taste and the soup is light.
However, cha goi, Vietnamese spring rolls are fantastic and you can do a good job of shrimp with curry sauce, which includes peanuts and coconuts, or beef chop, packed firmly ---too firmly --
Wrap with fragrant leaves before the barbecue.
Very light sauce
Although some foods are greasy, they are still textured.
This is a friendly little restaurant with representative Vietnamese food to choose from, and even omelet for French dishes that don\'t like adventure very much.

Exotic and familiar on the lunch and dinner menu--

It is almost impossible to see from the outside, but there is a new life in the Chinese hotel.

At a glance, it looks like a dimly lit, smooth spaceship with huge metal sun sculptures hanging on its walls and a large, green-wrapped Concave Circle hanging on its ceiling.
Luxurious comfortable seat;
The most intriguing thing is the curved booth set up like a cave on the wall with downlights and spotlights on the dimmers.
This is a restaurant with satisfactory food rather than exciting food.
There are snails, meat sauce, onion soup, cola, French veal and steak on the menu.
Although there are a few fresh fish in the daily specials list, nothing sounds irresistible.
One is mainly attracted by the price, and many prices are very reasonable.
Appetizers include ripe avocado and avocado sauces, which are sliced and seasoned with delicious pickled mushrooms and tomatoes.
Smoked salmon is hard sliced and great, twice the cost of many restaurants.
The standard onion soup was unexpectedly good.
The restaurant serves snacks and a full dinner, quiet or late night disco.

Sample a combination of chicken, Italian and roll dive, or a combination of gorgeous onion fresh clams and healthy dashboard peppers.
The main course is also good, especially the liver with rat Lee or veal.
But unless you are a friend of the House, the service is indifferent and few people think of the sensitivity of the dinner.
For example, the menu describes veal as \"with special Italian cheese\" rather than bothered to tell you that cheese is gorgonzola, a spicy blue that is not suitable for everyone\'s liking.
Family Style vegetables are sometimes very large and diners have to chop them up in order to share them with everyone.

Fishery has quickly become the pursuit
After dining at the restaurant, there are many potential diners waiting for the table. No wonder.
More seafood restaurants are needed in Washington, providing really fresh fish and cooking well.
Connected to the seafood market, the fishery here is the best.
This can be proved by ordering the simplest dish.
The oysters are salty and full.
The fried clams have slight crumbs and excellent juicy.
The fish shreds are moist, thank God there is no decoration.
More complex dishes-

Clam clhowder is unorthodox, white but not creamy, very nice if you are not a traditionalist.

There are many kinds of wine and beer here, which can be used as a supplement to the menu. desserts, especially chocolate walnut cakes, are worth a visit.

Some days, Geranio is worth a lap around the city road, and other days, it\'s not worth a walk around the neighborhood.
However, it is always a beautiful little Italian restaurant, white, with pink taste, with lovely small flowers on the table.
Daily specials are usually the best dishes because they make pesto with the first Basil of the season, cold pickled appetizers with the freshest fish, and sometimes offer some inventions, such as quail meat with fruit, rat plum stuffing and mushroom sauce.
But Geranio\'s pasta is not the lightest, and their fillings are not the most pungent.
The lamb has been severely trimmed and suffocated with a thick, nasty sauce.
The meal was delicious, or fair, and at the end was a delicious fresh berry pie.

The Jeman restaurant has created a new model for the Oriental restaurant.
The surroundings are steady, tasteful, and elegantly organized by heavy textured fabric walls, plants and stunning beautiful photos.
Food is also unusual, tasteful and elegant, mostly Vietnamese, but there are always some exciting new inventions from all over Asia.
Take your order especially from the daily specials list and would like to include Jeman\'s new carmel chicken and carmel sauce.
Even if it is not on the menu, Pine fish will be required, and filet steak for sea trout will be graded and slightly fried.
Including things on the charcoal grill: shrimp juice, lemon grass ribs, Korean food

Hidden extraordinary dishes.
Cold and hot dishes are generally interesting, especially shrimp cakes and sweet potato chips.
Germaine\'s portions are delicate, but the quality is not bad at all.
Even the wine list is very good.
No wonder the Jermaine Hotel is a landmark in Washington.

In the conscious cooking of the Golden Hall, the tranquility becomes plain, and the last two words should be erased from the name.
The vegetarian restaurant has expanded its scale, removed partitions that once provided privacy and added an outdoor cafe.
Launch salad bar at dinner--
A good, same old Sesame
Lemon and yogurtHerbal dressing-
Add a potato bar, an insult to overcooked potatoes and hot and sour sauce.
On the dinner menu, the combination of the anonymous mixture and the mismatch includes broccoli, apples, walnuts and mushrooms, over-priced $7 cheese, as well as mock egg rolls, lasagna, Curry and Mexico
Service dawdling, indifferent to complaints;
When something goes wrong, from the spicy yoga tea to the bitter carob Brownie, the reaction is to shrug.
In addition to the salad bar, the Golden Temple is a textbook case where a very good restaurant is allowed to fall into ruins.

This is a prescription to enjoy the oldest restaurant in Washington, but please follow the instructions carefully.
You can start with lobster chowder or clam casino;
Other soup can be tasted
Bland, even with plenty of fresh clams or crabs, my last oyster was very loose and small.
Next, a fish fillet or the whole baked flounder fish is either plain or large chunks of crab meat.
Harvey\'s disappointment is likely to be the lobster dish inside, so stick to the crab.
Vegetables are an interesting choice, but the variety is varied and zucchini is a great choice.
Strawberry shortbread is an unusual cream dessert.
Harvey\'s drinks are also good, the wine list is rich and educational and heavy for California, although the wine cellar does not meet the requirements.
This dingy club cave below the street is lush and comfortable, but the best service is left to the regulars and newcomers may be severely criticized.
All in all, Harvey seems tired in the face of the town\'s vibrant new seafood restaurant.
